About STRADIS
What it is
Stradis is a love-letter to creativity. In an era of efficiency, it’s antathetical to the trend that efficiency determines value. Creativity just doesn’t work like that. Rather, we encourage exploration, wonder, and happy little accidents that come with chasing down an idea. STRADIS can move very well in a straight-line, but it excels at amplifying ideas when it doesn’t have to be. It’s created in a way to always reward the curious.
In practical terms, Stradis is a graphic design and motion tool that unifies parts of the creative process that have historically been siloed. Figma is great for systems and layouts. Photoshop is where image making has lived for decades. After Effects makes it move, and TouchDesigner handles the generative work if you can figure it out. Each is good at its job, but work that needs more than one of them gets pieced together in ways that typically compromise the original vision, or the work is more in navigating limitations and compatability instead of making the thing. STRADIS puts those ways of working in one place. It runs on shaders, it can generate, manipulate and edit source material, and every step stays editable. There’s nothing that disappears into a black box, and ideation isn't conducted in a text box. It’s also built with portability in mind, so we can take your ideas anywhere– on a site as easily as into a video or poster.
What it isn’t
It isn’t finished. It’s a beta, and you’ll run into bugs and changes in most updates. The road map is also long, so what you’re seeing now will get better, more refined and built upon in the coming weeks.
It isn’t a company. There’s no team, investors, marketing department, or PMMs with ass-backwards incentives. It’s one person trying to build a tool I wish someone else had.
It isn’t a subscription trap. We aren’t architecting ways to capture your work in an eco-system you don’t own, and hold it ransom for the next month’s subscription. After the beta, the plan is that you’ll buy your copy of Stradis and keep it. The work you make with it is yours, and I’ll earn any continued support through meaningful upgrades.
Why it’s being built
Motion tools have been hard to get into, or built around the assumption that you can write code. I saw an opening to build something different, and AI is what made that possible for one person.
I’m a designer, not an engineer. A tool like this wasn’t something I could have built by any other means. I’ve spent a long time working out where AI actually belongs in this kind of work, and for me that’s here: in building the tool, so that the person using it has better tools to create themselvs– not to off-load creative responsibilities to an LLM.
This started out of frustration with existing tools, but it’s really about giving people more ability to realize their unique creative vision. Tools should work for the people who use them, and those people should have a real say in where the tools go. Steered by those use it, not by those looking to maximize profits and shareholder value.
What to expect
–
Frequent updates. Betas historically have been pushed weekly, and expect that cadence to hold for the remainder of the beta.
–
It’s free during the beta, which currently is planned to run through December 31, 2026. [This can change, but beta testers will be notified if it does]
–
Things may break. When they do, the ‘Feedback' button in the app sends your note directly, and it’s invaluable to stomp out as many bugs as possible.
–
Your feedback helps shapes what gets built next.
Who’s making it
Stradis is made by Jon Way, an independent Creative Director and Designer with 18 years of experience in graphic design, interactive design, photography, videography, type design, music production, etc.... I’ve worked with big tech [Apple, Google, Netflix, etc], and smaller brands like Swang, Arcteryx, Ledger, etc. In those years, I’ sought to diversify my experience, and have extensive work in branding, interactive, and motion. That 18 years of diversified experience, largely spent honing my craft, is now what’s informing product development for STRADIS.
It’s just me for now. For any questions go to info@stradis.app, and I’m happy to chat/talk shop, etc.

The short version

–
Stradis is beta software. It's unfinished and will have bugs, breakage and changes.
–
Your work is yours. Anything you make with Stradis belongs to you.
–
The software is ours. Don't decompile, extract or reverse-engineer it, and don't redistribute or resell it.
–
Commercial use is allowed, at your own risk.
–
No warranty. Stradis is provided "as is."
–
These terms and the beta can change or end, with reasonable notice.

1. Who we are

Stradis is made and operated by the owner of Stradis ("Stradis," "we," "us"). These terms cover the Stradis website (stradis.app) and the Stradis app.

2. The beta

Stradis is offered as a free public beta for a limited time. We may change, pause or end it, or turn it into a paid product, with reasonable notice. Your beta access has an end date, which the app shows you, and we may extend or end it.

3. Beta status and no warranty

The software is pre-release. It is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, reliability, availability or non-infringement. It may contain errors, lose or corrupt data, or stop working. Keep backups of work that matters.

4. What you may and may not do

You may use Stradis to create your own work. You may not:
–
decompile, disassemble, reverse-engineer, or otherwise try to extract the software's code or structure in order to recreate it or build a competing product;
–
copy, redistribute, sublicense, rent, sell or transfer the software or access to it;
–
remove or alter its branding, notices or identifiers;
–
use it unlawfully or in violation of these terms.
Learning how Stradis works from what's shown publicly is fine. Going into the code to rebuild it is not.

5. Open-source components

Stradis includes open-source software, and each component stays under its own license. Where one of those licenses gives you more rights than these terms, that license applies to that component. The full list is in the app under Settings → About.

6. Ownership

–
Your content: you keep all rights to everything you create with Stradis. We claim no ownership over your work.
–
Our software: the app, its code, design, structure and related intellectual property belong to the owner of Stradis. You get a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use it during the beta, and nothing more.

7. Commercial use

You may use what you create for commercial purposes. Because this is a beta, we aren't responsible for any loss, damage, missed deadline or other harm that comes from relying on it professionally.

8. Feedback

If you send feedback, bug reports or suggestions, we may use them freely to improve Stradis, without obligation or payment to you. Feedback is always optional.

9. Embedded players

If you export a Stradis animation as an embed and place it on your own website, you're responsible for your site and what you publish on it. The player script loads from player.stradis.app.

10. The website

Please don't misuse the site. That means no attempts to break it, overload it or scrape it at scale. Links to other sites are provided for convenience, and we aren't responsible for their content.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or work, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Stradis or this website.

12. Termination

We may suspend or end your access at any time, with or without cause. You may stop using Stradis at any time. The sections on ownership, restrictions, feedback and liability continue to apply afterward.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Stradis evolves. If a change is material, we'll give reasonable notice, and the app will ask you to accept the new terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

The short version

–
Your projects stay on your computer. We never upload, host or see them.
–
The app sends anonymous usage counts, like "the app was opened" or "an export was started." They're never tied to you.
–
The website uses Google Analytics to count visits, and we keep what you send us through its forms.
–
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
–
You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you.

1. Who is responsible

Stradis is made and operated by the owner of Stradis ("Stradis," "we," "us"), who is responsible for the personal information described here. This policy covers the Stradis app, the Stradis website (stradis.app) and Stradis players embedded on other websites.

2. What the app collects

Anonymous usage data

The app records events such as:
–
the app opening and closing, and how long it's in use
–
projects being created or opened
–
switching between Canvas and Node Graph
–
which built-in tools are added
–
which export formats are started
–
feedback being sent
Each event includes the app version and your operating system. It's linked only to a random ID created on your computer the first time you open the app. That ID isn't based on your name, email, license or hardware. We don't store your IP address or location.
Usage data never includes your projects, their contents, file names, text you type, or anything you create. It is sent to PostHog, our analytics provider, which stores it for us.

Feedback you choose to send

When you use the feedback button, we receive:
–
your message and its category
–
a screenshot, only if you attach one (it may show whatever is on your screen)
–
your app version and system
–
the name and email on your license, if your license has them
Feedback is stored privately and used only to fix bugs and improve Stradis.

License and update checks

To confirm your beta access and check for updates, the app downloads small files from download.stradis.app, which is hosted on Cloudflare. These checks send nothing about you or your work. Like any web request, the server can see your IP address. We don't use it to identify you.

Licenses tied to your computer (tester licenses only)

A license issued to a specific tester is locked to one computer using a scrambled code made from that machine. The real hardware ID never leaves your computer. The public beta license isn't tied to any person or computer.

3. Features that contact other services, only when you use them

–
Weather signal: sends the place you choose to Open-Meteo to get its forecast. It uses the place you pick, not your device's location.
–
Data Feed signal: connects to the web address you enter.
–
Shader import: downloads from the link you paste.

4. What the website collects

Analytics and cookies

The website uses Google Analytics to understand how it's used: how many people visit, which pages they view, how long they stay, how they arrived (for example, from a search or a link), the type of device and browser, and an approximate location at the country or city level. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so it can tell new visits from returning ones, and Google receives your IP address with each page view. We don't turn on Google's advertising features, and we don't use analytics to identify you.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site works the same without them.

Beta sign-up

When you apply for the beta, we receive your name, email address and the portfolio link you enter. We use them to review your application, send you beta access, and contact you about Stradis.

Contact form and email

When you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you.

Embedded players

A Stradis animation embedded on another website loads its player from player.stradis.app. Like any web request, the server can see the visitor's IP address. The player doesn't set cookies, run analytics or send anything back about the viewer. The website it's embedded on has its own privacy policy.

5. Why we use it

–
To run and improve Stradis: app usage data and feedback, based on our legitimate interest in making the software work well.
–
To run the beta and answer you: sign-ups and messages, because you asked us to.
–
To understand how the website is used: analytics, based on our legitimate interest in improving the site.
–
To meet legal obligations, if the law requires us to keep or share something.

6. What we don't do

–
We don't sell or share your personal information.
–
We don't run ads, advertising trackers or Google's advertising features.
–
We don't host your projects, images or fonts.
–
We don't make automated decisions about you.

7. Who processes data for us

–
PostHog: anonymous app usage analytics
–
Google (Google Analytics): website analytics
–
Cloudflare: downloads, license checks and feedback delivery
–
GitHub: private storage of feedback reports
–
Render: hosting for the website and its form submissions
Some of these providers are based in the United States, so your information may be processed there. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

8. How long we keep it

–
App usage data: up to 1 year
–
Website analytics: up to 14 months
–
Beta applications: until the beta ends, then deleted within 90 days
–
Contact messages and emails: up to 2 years, so we can follow up on past conversations
–
Feedback: until the issue is resolved, or until you ask us to delete it

9. Security

We keep what we hold in a small number of private, access-controlled services, and only the owner of Stradis can see it. No system is perfectly secure, which is why we collect as little as we can.

10. Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
–
show you the information we hold about you, or send you a copy;
–
correct it;
–
delete it;
–
stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email jon@stradis.app and we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking.
California residents have these rights under the CCPA. We don't sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms. EU and UK residents have these rights under the GDPR, and can also complain to their local data protection authority.

11. Children

Stradis isn't intended for anyone under 13, or under 16 in the EU and UK, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If what the app collects changes, the app will ask you to accept the updated terms before any new collection begins.
